St. Mary's School, Kuala Lumpur (1912)

I came across this gorgeous picture while doing a search on old Kuala Lumpur. While doing my diploma in Architecture back in 1996, my final research was on the first Anglican church in Kuala Lumpur, St. Mary the Virgin. What I enjoyed most during the research is the opportunity to study old Kuala Lumpur history and it's architectural characters.

So when I saw this picture of St. Mary School, it really wows me. I have never been to the school though as far as I remember I have got some friends schooling there, then. (I myself was schooling in an old building of Convent Bukit Nanas). And I just learnt or remembered today that due to urbanization, St. Mary's School has been removed to a new site.

But, look at that building! Beautiful colonial building that is now unused and decaying. Such a pity. Thought it could be turned out to be a cool cafe or travellers lodge or a museum or something. I wonder how long it would stand before being demolished. Too bad.

Well, basically the pictures above and below this are from Wikipedia.

I'll try to find more info about this beautiful building. In the meantime for basic reading, check out its Wikipedia page at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Mary's_School,_Kuala_Lumpur. It's history indeed an interesting read.

More soon.
